Watch the anime Edark!! 3-gatsu is so good. It's a slice of life, feels trip, and well about professional shogi manga/anime so people might not like it if they prefer action/fantasy ones. But defs give it a go.
I feel you! The ending was actually okay to me though it was a bit. I don't know if I know a good word. Contrived isn't quite right, but it felt very strange. Even so I liked it so much as a whole that I was just sort of "yeah ok that works" @ the ending, haha. Idk I kind of appreciate endings are are "eh ok" because good endings are hard to pull off.
yeah idk ending's really are hard and for me it's what differentiates my 9 ratings from 10's. like steinsgate/mahou magika/erased/nogame no life were all 10/10 other than their endings. people will probably disagree about steins but meh it was amazing until the end i thought

Erased is really nice, one of my favorites, especially from a storyboarding perspective--there are a lot of meaningful shots and color themes littered throughout the anime that are great to find on the second and third times watching it. Even if you know who the murderer is, it's still a fun experience, and I like short animes that are easy to consume / show other people. I like to think of Erased as a good anime to show people who don't watch anime.
Tbh I liked Yuri on Ice a lot, too. The hype was a bit much but it's a genuinely sweet story that I looked forward to every week when it was coming out! I think it's cute that real life figure skaters got into it and praised it, too. Shows the creator really loved the sport!
As far as classics go though, Cowboy Bebop and Mushishi are some big favorites. I mean, so is Death Note, but this new whitewashed live action Netflix version is gonna sour things lmao.
I still need to watch Kimi no na wa, it looks really pretty. Though if it's anything like 5 cm per second I might not like it, haha. That movie was beautiful but hard to get through. Garden of Words was nicer imho. Also Tekkonkinkreet is my favorite anime film (not counting Miyazaki's works)--the style is really unique and it has just the right amount of tension and violence and emotional strain to get me really invested.
I've watched Kimi no na wa five times in the last week and a half.

It's debatable. It's certainly anime-style, but it was aired for the States. I'd say yes. In a similar vein, Code Lyoko can be considered a French anime, since it was originally made for France.
